Museum Consultation Project
This presentation and the accompanying materials produced seek to aid the Davenport House Museum in its goal of making the Davenport House a first class museum “which adheres to accepted museum standards and offers a wide range of services for visitors in teaching about its parallel focus- the 1820s and the preservation movement in Savannah.” By applying the information taught in the Museum Education course at SCAD in the Winter of 2016, we hope to apply our new knowledge to the progression of the Davenport House Museum’s role as an educational resource for the Savannah community.
It is our duty to recommend creative and cost-effective steps the Davenport House Museum can take in the future in order to provide a diverse range of visitors an engaging and meaningful experience. Through collaborating with the SCAD Community, revising educational resources, and integrating new technology into it’s practice, we believe the Davenport House Museum will continue to present Savannah with new, unique, and meaningful moments for a broad audience.

Off-site School Visit
The Davenport House Museum would go out to a school or community center with a member of the staff to engage and educate the people who requested the visit.
The Off-site programs would last about 1 hour in length and include a story that tells the history of the Davenport House Museum. It would also include a showing of materials and pictures from the Museum and its collection relating to the story, that would be followed by an art-making activity. These crafts can include making a letter seal and using it, needlepoint, silhouettes portraits, or watercolor crafts.

After School Acting Workshop
The Davenport House Museum would host a small group of after school kids of ranging ages to participate in an acting workshop. This would include basic instructions on acting and how to participate within in a performance.
Participants would engage in activities that go over the following topics: relaxation, warm-ups, communication, characters, getting to know your character, getting into character, breaking down the script, memorizing lines, and the rehearsal process.
The participants in this workshop could also be provided with the opportunity to volunteer in the Davenport House’s many plays and programs.
